The first time someone covered me with a blanket, I understood the work

The session I did not expect

September 2019. I went to my first breathwork session without much idea of what I had signed up for.

Most of it, I was afraid. I was doing the technique, the breathing was simple enough, but fear kept rising and I did not know what to do with it. At some point my body started to move on its own, and something released. Then I got cold.

The facilitator, a woman who did not know my name, came over and laid a blanket over me.

I have thought about that blanket for years. What I felt was not warmth. It was love, from a stranger, offered for nothing, asking for nothing back. I remember lying there amazed that a person could pour that much care into someone she did not know.

Something else happened in that session. I went floaty, and for a few minutes I was not quite where I had been lying. I saw colour. I saw faces. I got frightened and came back.

But those few minutes rearranged what I thought was possible. I had tried meditation before and never got anywhere near it. Breathwork, it turned out, was the shortcut. The thing that took me somewhere it had taken other people years of sitting still to reach.

What changed after that

I kept going back. What I learned first was not a technique. It was that I had not been breathing.

Almost nobody is. Most of us breathe shallowly into the chest, or hold the breath without noticing, or breathe in a way that quietly produces more panic rather than less. We think we are calm because we are used to how we feel. We are not calm. We are just familiar.

Once I could see that, breathwork changed my relationship to my body. I stopped treating it as something to manage and started treating it as something I could trust. That took years, not weeks, and it is still going.

In 2021 I certified as a Sex, Love & Relationship Coach through Layla Martin’s VITA™ Institute, and started leading my own sessions.

Why I work with couples

I spent years feeling disconnected. From the people I was with, and from myself. Those two things turned out to be the same problem. It is very hard to reach someone else from a body you have left.

When I started working with couples, I found something I had not expected. Two people breathing in the same rhythm co-regulate. One nervous system finds the other, and they both come down. Safety gets built between partners faster through breath than through conversation, and it reaches places conversation does not go.

The same tool does the opposite too. It wakes the body up. It brings sensation online, heightens pleasure, and opens a channel between two people that is not physical at all. Most couples have never been in that state together and do not have language for it until afterward.

That is the work. It is called Soulsation™, a breath and sound method I created, guiding two people through each energy center at the same time.

Since then I have led Soulsation™ for more than 700 people. 35+ group workshops and 50+ couples across Miami, New York, London, and Paris, including a session at Mindvalley University. The couples work is the part I keep coming back to.

What this is, and what it is not

I am a breathwork facilitator and a certified coach. I am not a therapist, a doctor, or a couples counsellor, and this work does not replace any of them. If you are in crisis, or actively working through trauma, breathwork sits alongside that care rather than instead of it. I will tell you plainly if what you need is something I do not offer.

Breathwork also has real contraindications. I go through them before every session, and I would rather turn someone away than take a risk with their body.

What I do offer is an hour where two people can put their attention on each other, breathe together, and find out what is underneath the way they have been living.

An invitation

The blanket is the part I keep coming back to. A stranger covered me, and my body understood something my mind took years to catch up to.

Most of us are waiting for that from the person we are already with. Breath is how you learn to give it on purpose.
